We thought you would want to know about an upcoming deadline for accessing worker training funds through the 260E Iowa New Jobs Training Program. The purpose of this program is to enhance the skills of Iowa's workforce by providing training for employees in new jobs with businesses locating or expanding operations in the state.  Training can be delivered by vendors that the company chooses and the program covers tuition, travel and associated costs.

The program is administered locally by Des Moines Area Community College Business Resources (DBR). DBR periodically sells bonds to fund the training programs. The bonds are repaid by diverting a portion of the state withholding tax paid on the wages of new employees that receive training. A bond sale is coming up this spring, so businesses wanting to access funds in the coming year must complete an application before March 2, 2012.  DBR staff has extensive experience administering the program and will walk your business through each step of the process.

We encourage you to consider application if your business plans to add over seven new employees within the next two years.  Businesses engaged in retail sales, healthcare services or professional services (e.g. - doctors, lawyers) are ineligible.  If you would like to explore your eligibility and receive an estimate of the potential training dollars available for your business, please call our office at 515-964-6397.
