The Marion County Zoning office has been working in conjunction with MIPA (Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance) on the Marion County 2040 Comprehensive Plan update. The purpose of the Marion County 2040 Comprehensive Plan is to document a long-range vision for unincorporated Marion County and to guide land use and development policies while providing strategies that implement and achieve that vision.
Part of the Comprehensive Plan update process is to give the public an opportunity to provide input. The public comment period for residents of Marion County will be open Friday, February 6, 2026 through Monday, March 9, 2026. The draft of the Marion County Comprehensive Plan is available for public review and comment at https://www.marioncountyiowa.gov/zoning/marion_county_comprehensive_plan_update_2026
and in print at the Zoning Department office located at the Marion County Courthouse (214 E Main St., Knoxville, IA 50138). Comments can be submitted via email at: zoning@marioncountyiowa.gov
